FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)
Thank
you for showing interest in a Take a Hike walking
weekend.
I
voluntarily organise several group weekends a year and can’t spare time to
email everyone individually.
Please
read the website before asking questions, otherwise it creates unnecessary
admin. Thank you !
How
to Book
When I pre-pay using my credit card to get bulk discounts then please
cough up quickish to book your place and help my cash flow. Sorry, I won’t
reserve places without full payment or sell individual nights. Please email
or message me for bank details. Places are limited and sell out quickly. So
grab a bargain. If you snooze you lose!
DIY
options
I prepay hundreds of pounds for group accommodation so prefer
you buy places from me until I sell out. Alternative YHA rooms, B&B and
camping accommodation is available but may be a lot more expensive without
the discounts. Contact them directly for these. Day visitors are
welcome but sleepover is more practical given the long distance. Let me know
if you are coming and if you would like to join in our group meals and
evening socialising.
Facebook
It
is much easier to mass communicate with a Facebook Chat Group rather than
email.
- Please send me (Mike Ramplin) a
Facebook friend request and download the Messenger phone app (if you
have not already done so).
- I will then add you to the group
chat for news updates and car sharing etc.
- Take any one-to-one chat off line
otherwise people get board of the ‘pings’ and leave the forum.
- Be positive and don’t post moans
& groans. If you got a problem private message me first.
Car
Sharing
- Use above Facebook Chat
Group.

the diary for event specific details:-
Friday
Check-in usual from 5pm:
- The rooms are paid for and booked
in my name / Take A Hike

check-in at reception

per night non-member fee because we have group membership but bring your
own YHA membership card just in case.
- Always leave a spare key at
reception so no one gets locked out.
- Showers and kitchen are free to
use.
- Bring your own
tea/coffee/milk/food/etc. There are no shops for miles in some areas.
- Then YHA has a café and bar.
- Do not put food or drinks on our
group room bill - pay as you go.
- Bring your own booze but be
discreet as you might not be supposed to consume your own alcohol on the
premises, however anything goes outdoors.
- Some people like to arrive early
on Friday and do a walk. Please use the above Chat Group to organise one
but don’t get exhausted for the hard walk on Saturday.
Friday
night:-

for written messages in the rooms.
Saturday

about still making sandwiches and packing. If you snooze you lose !
